U.S. Considers Banning Entry of Citizens from 43 Countries

A leaked draft from within the Trump administration has revealed a proposal aimed at restricting entry for citizens from up to 43 countries, classifying them into different levels of restriction. The measure, which is still under review, has raised concerns among the international community and immigrant rights groups.

According to the leaked information, the proposal includes three levels of restrictions:
Red List: Citizens from 11 countries would be completely banned from entering the U.S. under any circumstances. These countries include Afghanistan, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Venezuela, and Yemen.
Orange List: Citizens from 10 countries would face limited travel opportunities and be subject to stricter visa interview requirements.
Yellow List: 22 countries would have a 60-day deadline to meet specific security requirements or face more severe restrictions.
The State Department indicated that the countries on the list have deficiencies in sharing security information with the U.S. or have governments considered unstable or corrupt. However, activists and human rights organizations argue that the measure may be based on political and discriminatory criteria, as it mostly affects Muslim-majority countries or developing nations.
If enforced, this proposal could impact thousands of people planning to travel to the U.S. for tourism, business, or family reunification. There are also concerns about whether current visa holders or green card holders would be exempt from the restrictions.
The uncertainty has led immigration experts to recommend that those potentially affected stay informed through official sources, such as the U.S. Department of State and U.S. embassies in their respective countries.
The Trump administration has given the State Department 60 days to finalize the report with official recommendations. In the coming weeks, the White House must decide whether to turn this proposal into an executive order.
Meanwhile, the proposal is expected to spark intense political and legal debate, as a similar policy pushed by Trump during his first term was partially blocked by federal courts.
Several governments have expressed concern over the measure, while civil rights groups warn that it could harm people who meet all the legal requirements to enter the country. The Trump administration defends the proposal as a way to strengthen national security.
As the deadline for the official report approaches, uncertainty grows among thousands of immigrants and international travelers. If approved, this could mark an unprecedented tightening of U.S. immigration policy.
