A federal judge in Boston has temporarily blocked a Trump administration measure that aimed to cancel humanitarian parole and deport more than 500,000 immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. This decision protects thousands of migrant families, especially in Florida, and brings hope to those who entered legally with this permit.

Humanitarian parole is a special permit granted by the U.S. government allowing individuals from certain countries to legally enter the country for urgent or humanitarian reasons.Under the Biden administration, this program was offered to people from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela who:
Had a sponsor in the U.S.
Passed health and security screenings
Arrived by plane at authorized airports
This permit is valid for up to 2 years, during which the person can live and work legally in the U.S.
In March, the Trump administration announced that the program would be eliminated. This meant:
The parole of those already in the U.S. would be canceled
Deportations would be expedited
New entries under this program would be blocked
Trump argued that the program was ineffective and created problems at the border and airports, especially in Florida, where 80% of these migrants had arrived.
Judge Indira Talwani, from the Federal Court in Boston, suspended the attempt to cancel humanitarian parole.
This means:
Immigrants with parole can remain in the U.S. while applying for immigration benefits.
They cannot be automatically deported as Trump intended.
The government cannot cancel their permit until further notice from the court.
The judge clarified that these individuals did not enter illegally, but through a legal process approved by the previous administration.
The ruling directly benefits more than 531,000 migrants who legally entered the U.S. under the CHNV program (named after the initials of their countries):
110,240 Cubans
211,040 Haitians
93,070 Nicaraguans
117,330 Venezuelans
If you are in the U.S. with this permit, the most important thing is to use this time to apply for an immigration benefit that allows you to stay legally beyond the two years, such as:
Asylum
Adjustment of Status
TPS (Temporary Protected Status)

This court decision represents a significant temporary victory for thousands of migrant families. But it does not mean the risk is gone.If you have humanitarian parole, stay informed, seek legal advice, and start your immigration process as soon as possible.
